Building construction with awareness to environment, in practice, is often considered against economical growth, since the cost for sustainable building is not cheap. In fact, sustainble building has a lot of positive impacts, for it contributes in mending microclimate and thus held global warming from getting worse, although usually a bit more expensive initially, in long term, the project will save substantial operational cost from energy savings.

b-panel^®, along with Beton Works (a federation of concrete-based building material producer, in which b-panel^® is one of them) continue to support a national seminar series with concern to sustainable building that is held in several universities in Indonesia. We are hoping to educate young generation in Indonesia, mainly the university students, about the importance of sustainable building.

The seminars were held in Universitas Bandar Lampung, Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta, Universitas Sumatra Utara, and Universitas Bina Nusantara (Binus) Jakarta. The seminars explain the implementation of b-panel^® in sustainable bulding, along with other environmentally-friendly products from Beton Works.

We no longer need to install walls by stacking the pieces of bricks (not to mention that they only function as partition walls); we can now install walls rapidly, with benefits of thermal and acoustic insulation included. In the future, these benefits will give long term profitability; such is the excellence of sustainable building.

Sustainable building is a concept that fulfill today’s need without ruining our successor’s ability to fulfill their needs. The main concern of eco-friendly building is to make it sustainable, to build and consume not more than necessary.

Sustainable building provides innovative and creative aspects in managing natural resources, in order to maintain its supply for the future. Preparation for future energy is our responsibility. So, sustainable building is a revolutionary idea that must be supported by everyone. This is a continuous movement which aspires to the creation of eco-friendly and energy efficient building, starting from conception, excecution, and selection of eco-friendly building materials. b-panel^® adopts Green Building concept which emphasizes on balance between short term gains versus long term risks, with a consideration for the health and prosperity of future generations

The exhibition was the biggest and the most influental building material exhibition in ASEAN, held annually and already on its 11th year. Occupying area of total 25000 sqm in Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), the exhibition was attended by 223 Indonesian companies and 225 foreign companies from China, Korea, Japan, etc.

Indonesia Building Technology Expo was focusing on technology development in building materials. The exhibition merged varieties of products from material supplier, manufacturer, and construction companies, letting the visitors to meet and gain business relationships with formidable partners in construction, building, design, and interior design.

The exhibiton was supported by Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), Indonesia Society of Interior Designer, and Indonesia Exhibition and Convention Association, along with Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Trade, and Ministry of Public Works.

Beton Works introduced high quality, eco-friendly building materials and informed visitors of the latest innovation in building construction. Beton Works offers complete products – from “shoes to hat” of your building : From foundation pile, concrete paving blocks, precast floor panels, insulated structural and partition wall panels, lightweight aerated concrete blocks, to roof tiles.

The variety of products also helped the customers to choose the best solution for their house. Their technical team was present in the booth, giving explanation during the exhibition, causing the booth constantly filled with visitors.

Green Building Council Indonesia (GBCI) is a non-profit organization, which mission is to promote environmentally-friendly buildings in Indonesia. This organization, headed by Madam Naning Adiwoso, has been actively educating Indonesia’s developers and architects, to better understand and apply design elements, material choice, and construction process, which minimize the environmental impact during the project’s construction as well as throughout its operations, and to attain the most efficient use of energy.

Starting from April 23, 2013, according to DKI Jakarta Governor decree No. 38/2012 on green buildings, all projects of certain sizes located in Jakarta has to be assessed with Greenship scoring system. Example of buildings that fall into this category:

• Office buildings, shopping malls, apartements > 50.000 m2
• Hotels, hospitals > 20.000 m2
• Education facilities/schools > 10.000 m2

GBCI’s Greenshhip assessment system has actually been introduced in 2012,and now is formally made into a formal requirement. The higher the score, the higher the rating bestowed upon the project.

The higher the rating, the more incentive that the government can offer, ranging from land and building tax (PBB) as well as streamlining of building permit application. On top of this, the building can be marketed more attractively, and it is the future trend that environmentally-friendly and energy efficient buildings are becoming more desirable. Market awareness of environmental issues has become more acute, and the cost of fuel and electricity is going up.

The use of b-panel^®, holistically combined with other planned elements and building materials, such as thermally insulated windows and door seals, solar water heating, and systematic waste water treatment system, will ensure a commendable Greenship rating. The following are some of the criteria and details on how b-panel^® fulfills these criteria:

1. EEC 1/EEC P2: Energy-Efficiency MeasuresThe use of b-panel^® will reduce the thermal leak and air-conditioning load, and therefore improve the Overall Thremal Transfer Value (OTTV) of the building. On the opposite, the use of conventional concrete roof deck and brick walls are gross disregard for energy efficiency and thermal comfort, because beside the heat intrusion to the building interior, the wall and roof deck which are exposed to the solar heat act as thermal capacitor/heat reservoir, which keep warming up the rooms well into the evening. Rating potential: Max. 5-20 points
2. MRC 2: Environment Friendly MaterialsGREENSHIP assessment: The use of recycled material equal to at least 5% of the project value. Details: b-foam^® EPS utilized for b-panel^® has at least 15% recycled content from processing waste of previous projects. Rating potential: 3 points
3. MRC 5: Prefab MaterialGREENSHIP assessment: Design utilizing modular or prefabricated material (Not including equipment) of at least 30% of total material cost.
   Details: The use of b-panel^® enables total prefabrication method and thus significantly reducing project waste
   Rating potential: 3 points
4. IHC 6: Thermal ComfortGREENSHIP assessment: Design of stable room temperature of 25C and 60% relative humidity Details: Thermal insulation layer of b-panel® help reduce heat intrusion to the interior of building, while the low moisture absorption of b-foam^® EPS ensures stable humidity level of the building Rating potential: 1 point
5. IHC 7: Acoustic LevelGREENSHIP assessment: Noise level of 90% of nett lettable area (NLA) not exceeding SNI 03-6386-2000 recommendation on noise level and vibration level for building and dwelling. Details: “Mass and damper” sandwich construction of b-panel^® offers lower sound intrusion while keeping the wall weight in check. Rating potential: 1 point
6. MRC 6: Regional MaterialGREENSHIP assessment:
   1. The use of products which raw materials and production facility is within 1.000 km from project site, for at least 50% of total material costs.
   2. Utilizing products that are made within Indonesian territory for at least 80% of total material costs.

   Details: all raw materials for b-panel^® manufacturing are sourced within Indonesian territory*, and within 1000 km from the factory
   Rating potential: 2 points
   (*Exception is imported carbon-graphite EPS used in b-panel^® Neo)

From the above factors, the application of b-panel^® can significantly add to Greenship assessment points, to provide the highest Greenship score to projects that utilize it.

The concept of eco-friendly lately becomes very popular and important in products or services. This is not excessive considering the poor environmental condition due to human activities. Environment-friendly is defined as all the things that refer to products, services, policies, and procedures which do not harm the environment. In the construction area, the relevant subject is green building.

Green building, also called green construction or sustainable building, refers to the structure and the use of construction process which are environmentally friendly and energy-efficient in all aspects of the building. One of the organizations that is committed to green building practice is the Green Building Council of Indonesia. On April 2012 GBC Indonesia held GREENRIGHT Conference and Expo 2012 at Jakarta Convention Center (JCC). The main purpose of this event was to bring more information to the regulators, professionals, industry players, academia/students, and environmentalists, in order to understand, make decision, and introduce practice of green building in Indonesia. This expected to create market and behavior transformation, so the application of the concept of green building can run efficiently and sustainably.

At the event, aside from environmental experts, businesses of eco-friendly products also contributed, including PT. Beton Elemenindo Putra, with b-panel^® as its flagship product. With the theme “Adapt to Sustain” GREENRIGHT 2012 invited industry players, and the general public to work together to become the agent of change towards green and sustainable tomorrow. GREENRIGHT provided an opportunity for industry players to exhibit their environment friendly products, so as to give information for those which want to implement the concept of green building.

PT. Beton Elemenindo Putra, in accordance with the vision of “21st-century residence that is energy-efficient and save lives”, is worthy of being one of the green products industry players. Whether we realize it or not, our house can be one of the producers of greenhouse gases. Among them is power consumption of A/C that uses about 40% of electrical energy. The need for comfort to be found in the house will be a boomerang for the balance of the ecosystem. The use of b-panel^® can reduce the consumption of A/C by 35-40%, this helps in reducing carbon emissions (Java-Bali grid is predominately coal-fired), so the concept of environmentally responsible buildings become manifested. Civil Engineering Faculty Seminar, Tarumanagara University (UNTAR) sponsor byb-panel^®

“Innovative Building Material for Green Construction”

	On the day Tuesday, November 24, 2009, PT . Beton Elemenindo Putra became one-day seminar themed corporate sponsorship of innovative eco green building materials, organized by the Faculty of Civil Engineering University Tarumanagara (untar). The event is open to professionals and the public was held at the Main Auditorium 3rd Floor Building at Jalan Lt. S. untar Parman No. 1, Jakarta.
With environmental friendliness as a topic of increasing interest lately, more than 200 participants attended the event, with the majority are from among the students. Not a few building professionals, and from among the lecturers / academics who were also present. This seminar was organized to strengthen the awareness of students and professionals on the environment, related to the field of construction and civil engineering.
In a full day event that,. BEPutra held a booth / stand near a small auditorium, with the aim to provide additional explanations are more detailed and technical about the system and b-panel® materials to students and visitors of other seminars. Another function of this stand is to recruit final year students to join the b-panel® after graduation. During recess and lunch, stand b-panel® is always crowded audience. In addition to b-panel® brochure, the staff of PT. BEPutra also distributed copies of the latest magazine articles related to b-panel®, and products that will be developed by PT BEPutra hereinafter, namely Geofoam.

In the first session in the morning, a seminar featuring Mr. FX Supartono as the first speaker. He was one of the leading experts of concrete construction in Indonesia. In his presentation, Mr. Supartono remind all students and civil engineering professionals to keep in mind the interests and needs of future generations in exploring or exploiting the earth now, and always thinking of designing buildings and plan for project implementation process, so that environmental sustainability can be maintained. In his presentation, Mr. Supartono also discuss a variety of concrete technology trends that can be practiced to reduce environmental impact, without sacrificing the strength of buildings, or significant additional project cost.

The second speaker was Mr. Urip Timuryono. He is the President Director of PT Semen Gresik, and also is the cement industry experts and technology of the most respected in Indonesia. Mr Urip explained that the cement industry is an industry that is intrinsically highly energy consuming, and therefore also very much out of greenhouse gases (Green house gas emission). Mr Urip express the development achievements of cement producers in trying to create processes and their products become more environmentally friendly – what he calls “Green Cement”. As previously discussed by Mr. Supartono, Pak Urip explained that in implementing the program “Green Cement”, instead of cement quality or strength improves, the price of cement rose, so the solution is not an adverse party compromise industry players.

In the afternoon session, the corporate seminar sponsor which are PT. Sika Indonesia and b-panel® as the speakers. PT.Sika Indnesia is the part Sika worldwide, a Swiss global company, explaining how importance the building roof as a way to decrease the enviromental impact to a building, specially on Green roof ar roof garden.The implementation roof dwelling and building as a park, the roof thermal insulation increasing, the oxygen reproduction will also be increasing specially in the downtown. Dust polution and CO2 concentration in the air will be absorbed by plants and soil at the park.

Next speaker is b-panel®. The presentation begin with monitoring the situation due to global warning that human activities are increasingly severe, the contribution of CO2 emissions of some countries that are not commensurate with their population, and opportunities of global CO2 emissions reduction of thermal insulation repairs and building occupancy.b-panel® presentation also explained how significant potential for energy savings A / C due to thermal insulation EPS ®b-panel® is very superior.   PT.
